Somewhere out there, fans may have thought to themselves, “gee, I really wish I could play more of the zany puzzles and challenges in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.” For anyone who falls into that camp, your wish has now been granted. The Special Episode DLC is now available today. Of course, you may have already known that thanks to the official announcement during the February Nintendo Direct. But, I just couldn’t let you forget and have all this new content fall into obscurity. That would be a travesty now wouldn’t it?
If you own Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker for the Switch, you’ve already been able to take advantage of the fun new co-op mode provided you have a buddy (not the weird turnip-launching support mode). True co-op is so much more fun than the odd tacked-on version we received at launch. And now, players can snag the Special Episode DLC on the eShop for a mere $5.99. What’s in that $5.99, you ask? Well, let’s refresh your memory. There are 5 new courses. That’s only a $1.20 per course! Also, Nintendo promises 18 new challenges spread across each of these courses. Those who pre-purchased were able to receive early access to one of the courses already.
At the time of the DLC’s announcement it was thought to be quite unusual but surprising in positive way. Even a year after its release, Nintendo is supporting the game — which is something we saw happen with Kirby Star Allies and its free additions and updates, as well. While Breath of the Wild received substantial, but expected DLC, it’s nice to see that Nintendo still continues to recognize its other properties that might not reach the high pedestals that games like Breath of the Wild or Super Mario Odyssey sit upon.
So, gear up for more quirky puzzle-solving adventures, treasure trackers. And if you fancy, grab a Toad or Toadette pal to storm the beaches with you!
