Bugs: Atari reveals Centipede: Recharged for September 29 release

Centipede: Recharged reveal

If you are a fan of video game classics, you surely have played Centipede. The Atari title caused many gamers to panic back in the day with its “one player against an onslaught of bugs” structure. Modern competitors have no reason to feel left out, however. Atari just had a reveal for Centipede: Recharged. As you may have guessed, this upcoming Switch game is a reimagining of the vintage adventure.

Centipede: Recharged looks like if Centipede and Geometry Wars had a baby

Here’s a short announcement trailer:

Developers Adamvision Studios and SneakyBox Studios are hoping to bring Centipede screaming into the 21st century. Recharged definitely has some modern elements. Challenges, powerups, and couch co-op are all available options. In particular, powerups are dropped by spiders and include explosive bullets, spread shots, and a railgun. This is not your dad’s Centipede, that’s for sure.

Also, Atari stated Recharged is part of a new initiative “which will revitalize some of Atari’s legendary portfolio of titles for modern platforms.” Bring back Breakout, guys!

Centipede: Recharged will launch on the Switch eShop on September 29 for $9.99.
