Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s funniest cold open recreated in Animal Crossing

Animal Crossing tribute Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Ever since Animal Crossing: New Horizons launched two months ago, passionate fans have used its photo mode to recreate tons of iconic moments from video games and pop culture. We’ve reported on fantastic fan tributes like Ocarina of Time‘s Castle Courtyard, the GoldenEye intro, and even the sultry sounds of Rick Astley. Today’s recreation is my favorite cold open from Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

In the cold opening to the episode “DFW,” Detective Peralta needs to help a witness identify a perp based only on their ability to sing I Want It That Way by the Backstreet Boys. A lineup of suspects is assembled to sing the part, and Peralta gets a little too into it. It’s a hilarious scene all on its own, and now you can see it re-enacted with adorable Animal Crossing characters.┬áCheck out this fun fan video by clicking below!

For comparison’s sake, here’s the original cold open from Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 5, Episode 17. As you’ll be able to see, Animal Crossing fan dclemente did a great job of capturing the fun of the original video. We’re loving all these fan tributes, so keep ’em coming!
