The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the most popular games on Switch and Wii U. It’s also extremely popular in the PC community thanks to emulation software like CEMU. However, PC gamers are enjoying a vastly different experience. The latest Zelda adventure has been modded to include everything from Thomas the Tank Engine to Shrek. Other mods focus on quality, improving the visuals to 4K and 60 frames per second. The latest tools take a different approach. Thanks to modder HailToDodongo, Breath of the Wild on CEMU now allows you to customize shrines.
Breath of the Wild Custom Level Editor
HailToDodongo recently unveiled Custom Level Mod Support. It allows you to remove assets from a shrine and replace them new assets. It also supports collision detection so your imported assets will work properly. Modder MelonSpeedruns used these abilities to recreate Bob-omb Battlefield from Super Mario 64. Custom Level Mod Support also makes it possible to add enemies, weapons, and items to existing shrines. You can spice up the place with some Lynels or arm yourself with stronger weapons.
So far modders have only released two playable demos to the public, but there is potential for so much more. We could see fan-favorite Zelda dungeons re-created in the future. You can also use these tools to customize areas outside of the shrines. With enough time and resources, you could remake the entire Hyrule overworld. As BSoD Gaming suggests, you could even recreate Hyrule before Ganon’s attack.
