Bravely Default Brilliant Lights release date set for January 27 in Japan

Square Enix surprised fans by announcing the release date of Bravely Default: Brilliant Lights, which isn’t next month or next week, but tomorrow, January 27, in Japan.

Bravely Default: Brilliant Lights is the latest smartphone game from the Bravely series. It features a story and setting written by Keiichi Ajiro, known for his work on the scenarios of Bravely Default and Bravely Second. The game will also feature music by Revo, who composed plenty of tunes for past entries of the series.

As far as gameplay goes, it will be a single-player RPG with recruitable characters, and it won’t be in gacha form. The battles will also include the Brave & Default system that we’ve seen so far in each Bravely game. Speaking of past entries, Brilliant Lights will feature many Bravely series characters for you to throw into parties. Think of the game as a celebration of the Bravely series’s 10th anniversary.

Bravely Default: Brilliant Lights will be available to play on smartphones in Japan on January 27, 2022. Pre-registration is now available. Square Enix has not announced a localization outside of Japan for the mobile game, but given the past record of Bravely Default mobile games, it’ll likely stay in Japan. In any case, we’ve seen stranger things happen, so I wouldn’t give up all hope on seeing Brilliant Lights eventually appear in the West.
