Whether you choose to acknowledge it or not, the Internet is in the midst of a war. I call it the “Great Waifu War 2018.” What was once considered a simple (albeit lewd) meme has quickly spiraled into a battle for the Super Crown. The current champion Bowsette is defending her title in a triple threat match with challengers Boosette and Chain-Chompette. What a time to be alive.
As we previously reported, Bowsette was spawned by fans who took the power of the Super Crown to new levels. The latest item revealed to be in the upcoming New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe for Nintendo Switch appears to transform the wearer into their own version of Princess Peach. We saw this happen when Toadette turned into Peachette.
Nintendo fans, being the inquisitive types they are, wondered to themselves how else this can be used. A comic strip depicting Bowser using the Super Crown unleashed the sexy terror that is Bowsette upon an unsuspecting Internet. Fan artists drew their own visions of what Bowsette looks like at a feverish pace overnight. But the corrupting power of the Super Crown would not end there.
Boosette busts loose
The next popular choice to get the waifu treatment was the ghostly Boo — otherwise dubbed Boosette.
The pale skin, white dress, sinister look, and tongue sticking out certainly fit the vibe of the character. Some artists would even depict Boosette covering her face much like the real McCoy does when facing Mario. Given Luigi’s more recent adventures in ghost-hunting, the two appear to have already developed some lore.
Chompin’ at the bit
Sticking with the villain theme, the Internet next gave us what has been dubbed as Chain-Chompette. Wives can disparagingly be called an “ol’ ball and chain,” but this is one case where that’s not a bug — it’s a feature.
Is Princess Peach simply an archetype anyone can transform into? Does the Super Crown hold some kind of sinister grip over the character wearing it? Is Toadette practicing witchcraft in secret and this is the result? We have so many questions, Nintendo! Until then, we’ll enjoy the fan art and cosplay (and waifus, of course).
