Trine devs reveal team-based melee brawler Boreal Blade, out right now

Boreal Blade team brawler revealed by Trine dev, out now

Do you like Trine? What about team-based melee fighting action games? What about a team-based melee fighting action game made by the developers of Trine? For Nintendo Switch? That is available right now? Good news then: Out of nowhere, Frozenbyte has revealed their new game, Boreal Blade.

Frozenbyte are the developers of co-op puzzle platformer series Trine, but their latest game is a huge departure from that. Boreal Blade is a team-based fighting game that has “a fluid combat system and the possibility to develop sophisticated fighting techniques and tactics.”

The focus of the game is player versus player battle. There are a bunch of different weapon types available to use, as well as three different fighting styles to try out. There are also three different armor classes, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.

Players can dive into a Team Deathmatch mode with friends and foes or hop into a different kind of team-based competition in Boreal Battles. There’s also Boreal Claim, a mode which “consists of two teams who take turns attacking or defending a banner against the other team.” Finally, you can keep things old-school with a classic free-for-all in Deathmatch — the first person to rack up 20 kills wins it all. If you want to take a break from battle, you can even create and customize your own characters with a variety of equipment, accessories, jewelry, facial hair, and armor dyes.

As of writing, you can hop onto your Nintendo Switch and grab Boreal Blade on the Switch eShop for $19.99 / 19.99€ / £17.99. Additionally, there’s a free demo you can take a swing at if you’d rather try before you buy.
