ArtPlay and 505 Games’ Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has seen a river of free updates since its release, owing largely to the many stretch goals met during Koji Igarashi’s outstandingly successful Kickstarter for the game. However, it’s become standard fare for any major update to the game to arrive a little later on Nintendo Switch than on other consoles. That does not seem to be the case this time though, as Bloodstained Twitter has stated pretty bluntly that Classic Mode is coming to the game on Thursday, Jan. 14, apparently on all platforms.

Bloodstained Classic Mode, if you can’t immediately tell from the provided screenshot, introduces the retro flavor and game structure of the original, more-linear Castlevania games. 505 Games once described the mode like this: “It’s Bloodstained 80s-style as Miriam faces off against a series of sub-bosses laid out across five harrowing stages and three difficulty levels.” Bloodstained Classic Mode was originally scheduled to launch in Q3 2020, but the release date was understandably delayed amid COVID-19 complications and the like.
Other modes scheduled to arrive in Q1 2021 currently include Chaos Mode and Vs. Mode, the former of which is a randomized boss rush mode and the latter of which is a “tense survival mode where players compete by indirectly attacking each another.” Both of those modes will offer local and online multiplayer.
