BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle reveals new characters and 5th crossover franchise

BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle 2019 spring characters DLC

EVO Japan 2019 has been happening this weekend, and it’s been full of announcements. One of those announcements came from Arc System Works in the form of new characters coming to their massive crossover fighter, BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, in the spring.

The first character announced was Naoto Kurogane, the hot-blooded fist fighter from BlazBlue: Central Fiction. He’ll be joined by the iconic bear mascot Teddie from Persona 4 Arena. Seth, the edgy knife-wielder from Under Night In-Birth, will also be coming to the game.

The fourth character they announced for the spring DLC update is also a confirmation of the mysterious fifth diamond Arc System Works added to the BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle logo last year. Heart Aino from the bubbly all-girls anime fighter Arcana Heart 3 will be joining Cross Tag Battle, potentially bringing more Arcana Heart 3 fighters along with her in the future.

Interestingly enough, the footage shown of Heart Aino in the announcement trailer reveals that they didn’t simply reuse her original sprites for BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, like they have for other returning fighters. She’s gotten a major visual overhaul to match the quality and art style of the other fighters in the game.

These fighters are slated to join the roster of the game in spring of 2019 on the upcoming arcade version of the fighter. It’s common practice for new arcade characters to eventually come to home consoles alongside additional characters or updates, though.

Unfortunately, no new fighters from the RWBY franchise were announced to be joining the game. In fact, the teaser actually ends by adding a sixth diamond to the BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle logo, hinting that an additional franchise will be joining the game soon.
