Blasphemous: The Stir of Dawn DLC launches for free next month

Blasphemous: The Stir of Dawn trailer free DLC expansion Team 17 The Game Kitchen

Publisher Team 17 and developer The Game Kitchen have announced Blasphemous: The Stir of Dawn. This will be the first DLC expansion for Blasphemous, and it’s coming as a free update to the game on Aug. 4. A trailer for the expansion shows off new areas, a New Game+ mode, and so much more to explore.

Blasphemous is a Metroidvania that draws inspiration for its twisted world from Catholicism, and it was overall well-received when it launched last year. Dark Souls fans in particular enjoyed it because of the environmental storytelling through item descriptions.

Blasphemous: The Stir of Dawn looks to build upon the world of Cvstodia. There are new storylines, new areas to explore, and of course a host of brand new bosses. The map also looks to have been revamped to make it easier to use, and there’s a new feature for choosing your Penitence. These seem to provide buffs to The Penitent One whilst also applying brutal restrictions. The game’s already brilliant voice acting has also seen an update, with Spanish now included.

If New Game+ functions as it typically does in these games, it will give players the chance to battle through the story all over again, with all of their upgrades from the previous playthrough. It remains to be seen if the enemies in the world will become stronger to match.

Will you be playing the free Blasphemous: The Stir of Dawn DLC?

Started out playing Metroid 2 on the GameBoy at around 5 years-old, and now I write about games all day long. Can't play Switch and drive, I've tried. As time goes on the Switch is quickly becoming my favourite console of all time.
