Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain is basically new multiplayer Brain Age from Nintendo

new multiplayer Brain Age Nintendo Switch Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain announcement trailer

Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day! was a real force when it arrived on Nintendo DS in the mid-2000s, selling more than 19 million units as it helped young and old people alike to keep their minds sharp with various little tasks and puzzles inspired by the work of Japanese neuroscientist Ryuta Kawashima. The game saw a few sequels and riffs, but the most recent one, Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training for Nintendo Switch, never actually released in North America. However, Nintendo now sees fit to release a whole new brain-teaser game with a multiplayer emphasis, Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain. Big Brain Academy is coming to Nintendo Switch around the world with a release date of December 3, 2021.

The announcement trailer for Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain emphasizes the fun of playing little brain challenges with family and friends locally, and each player can set their own difficulty level to challenge themselves or maybe just so that parents don’t completely demolish their 8-year-old children. Additionally, while it seems you can’t play head to head online with someone else, you can play against other players’ stored “ghost data,” a copy of how they played, (Think like racing against “ghosts” in Mario Kart.) in Ghost Clash mode. So, again, it feels like a multiplayer-centric Brain Age.

The closest thing to new multiplayer Brain Age on Nintendo Switch

In total, Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain offers five types of brain teasers to conquer: Identify, Memorize, Analyze, Compute, and Visualize. There is of course a Practice mode to wrap your head around things, and there is also Test mode, which Nintendo explains with the following:

In this mode, you are tested in a series of five activities. At the end, Dr. Lobe (your distinguished host and guide in the game) presents you with your Big Brain Brawn score. Aim for the high score and you might better your chances in the next brain vs. brain battle! Regular testing will earn you in-game coins, which can be used to unlock costumes for your avatar. Testing your brain is always more fun when you’re dressed like an adorable kitten!

If you need to prove how big your brain is or just want to sharpen it up a bit (which might be necessary thanks to COVID), Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain could be just the thing for you on Nintendo Switch this December. A new multiplayer Brain Age-like experience sounds marvelous right now.
