Bayonetta 3 development going well despite E3 absence, says Platinum

Nintendo’s E3 2019 Direct and Treehouse Live showcases provided reveals and updates on a ton of exciting games. However, one particular title was conspicuously absent from this year’s Electronics Entertainment Expo, being none other than PlatinumGames’ Bayonetta 3. Despite its reveal dating back to The Game Awards 2017, the developer has remained mostly mum on the subject ever since. Well, aside from the odd bamboozle every now and again from series director Hideki Kamiya.

However, the radio silence is only indicative of continued smooth sailing for Bayonetta 3‘s unorthodox production, according to PlatinumGames head producer Atsushi Inaba. Approached by Video Games Chronicle reporters at E3 asking if fans should be worried, Inaba replied with the following:

No, development is actually going quite well. Games aren’t usually done in a year or two… it takes a while. That’s all. Things are going well and I know a lot of people are asking for it. Giving updates for everything at E3 isn’t the smartest PR strategy to begin with. So just because we’re not showing it here doesn’t mean it’s not going well.

Hard at work

Besides Bayonetta 3 down the pipeline, PlatinumGames is currently prepping Astral Chain for its August 30 release date. Additionally, there is the 2019-bound Babylon’s Fall for PlayStation 4 and PC, first revealed back during E3 2018, though this game also went unmentioned during Square Enix LIVE E3 2019.

Speaking of Square Enix, PlatinumGames is also currently working towards self-publishing their own games without depending on other publishers in the future. As part of this bold new initiative, the studio is currently working on two original IPs that are “truly […] unlike anything else.
