Banjo-Kazooie puzzle used by Rare to say “stay home” during COVID-19

The folks at Rare, the lovable team behind the eternally awesome Banjo-Kazooie, are adding their piece to the cascading chorus of “stay home” messages encouraging anyone and everyone to practice social isolation in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Via Twitter, the studio recorded a clip in a classic room from Banjo-Kazooie. If you ever dabbled with the game’s unfinished Stop ‘n’ Swap feature, you probably know where I’m talking about: the cavern full of letters in Treasure Trove Cove.

Instead of liberating a Jiggy or pounding in cheat codes, however, Rare has a very simple message for all of us. Check it out below in all of its classic Banjo-Kazooie glory.

There you have it, folks. Stay home! You wouldn’t want to upset the titular dynamic duo of Banjo-Kazooie, right? Even if they don’t have a new game coming any time soon, they still deserve a special place in our hearts.

Communicating through a classic platformer in Banjo-Kazooie is one of the more creative ways in which public figures and organizations have encouraged mass isolation. People need a lot of encouragement – it’s not fun to lock yourself inside all day for weeks on end, but it’s necessary. Lives are quite literally at stake.

Does this clip make you want to bust out Banjo-Kazooie while passing time in quarantine? If not, what are you doing to pass the time instead? Sound off in the comments.
