Bandai Namco has collaborated with Nintendo fairly extensively on the last couple of Super Smash Brothers games, but a recent update to their products page shows a deeper relationship than we imagined. The popular publisher has also had a hand in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, and most recently, Mario Kart Tour. The studio mostly played a heavy role in developing visual assets for each game. Mario Kart Tour
For the smartphone game “Mario Kart Tour”, released by Nintendo on September 25th, 2019, we partially implemented in-games and 3D visual assets for courses, characters and machines. We also produced approximately half of bonus challenges.
For Nintendo Switch game “ARMS”, released in July 16, 2017, we produced approximately half of visual assets for stages, fighters and arms.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
For Nintendo Switch game “MARIO KART 8 DELUXE”, released in April 28, 2017, we produced approximately half of visual assets for courses, characters and machine parts.
As games get more and more challenging to develop, external resources become increasingly useful in churning out assets for games like Mario Kart Tour. One has to wonder if this is the full extent of the partnership between the two companies, or if Bandai Namco has been pushing out visuals for even more recent Nintendo games. What do you think of the partnership between Nintendo and Bandai Namco? Nintendo has spent the last few years opening themselves and their properties up to some fairly extensive collaborations with outside studios. Evidently, it’s working out for them pretty nicely.
