A new trailer for Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD dropped earlier today on SEGA’s Japanese YouTube channel. The trailer, just over ninety seconds long, shows off a sizzle reel of several traditional marble rolling levels and a handful of minigames. Cramming in several blink-and-you-miss-it highlights, the trailer is getting me pretty excited for the upcoming remake, even if it still makes zero sense that SEGA decided to remake this instead of Super Monkey Ball 2. Check out the trailer below, and keep an eye out for fan-favorite minigame Monkey Target, which appears right around the one minute mark.
What do you think? The marble rolling gameplay looks very solid, and while the motion controls were not explicitly bad in the original Banana Blitz, traditional stick controls should make these stages enjoyable and accessible on an entirely new level in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD.
When the remake launches in the West on October 29, it will hopefully improve on what was a slightly above average game upon its first release. While I am clearly still disappointed that Super Monkey Ball 2 did not get the nod for a remaster, I have high hopes that Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD will begin a successful return for the series, hopefully generating some momentum that can roll into new games down the line.
