Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy announced

Nintendo just released their first-ever Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase video, debuting plenty of exciting news for JRPG fans with an itch for new Shin Megami Tensei content. While the English version of the video shared the exciting news from Atlus, a particularly exciting JRPG announcement from Koei Tecmo only debuted in the Japanese version of the Partner Showcase. That news is the announcement of Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy, the follow-up to last year’s entry in the long-running alchemic RPG Atelier series.

A direct sequel like this is pretty uncharted territory for the Atelier series, and is something the 3D games have never done before. Traditionally, Atelier games release in thematic trilogies that each feature a new protagonist and new story loosely linked together. Atelier Ryza, though, marks a new chapter for the series in many ways. The inventive game shook up the formula of the series in a lot of ways, and went on to ship 420,000 copies and become the best-selling game in the entire franchise.

It would make sense, then, that Koei Tecmo would decide to bring Ryza back for another adventure in Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy. The Japanese trailer for the game shows off some exciting new gameplay additions like rideable animal mounts, a grappling hook to traverse vertical terrain, and even underwater exploration.

The trailer for Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy may only be in Japanese, but fear not. Koei Tecmo America has already confirmed that the game is coming west in a new tweet, and a countdown website has also gone live for the game that is set to reveal a new English trailer for the RPG on July 29.
