Arcade Archives Gradius II soars to Switch this week

Gradius II Arcade Archives nintendo switch

Publisher Hamster continues to bring over more arcade classics to Nintendo Switch via the Arcade Archives series. This week, another Arcade Archives entry is heading our way in the form of Gradius II. This classic was launched by Konami back in 1988, and the Switch eShop version will set you back $7.99.

Gradius II is a horizontal 2D shooter and party of a family of highly influential shoot ’em ups. Outside of Japan, it was known as Vulcan Venture in its arcade form. It’s also been re-released multiple times since. That includes ports to the original PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and the PlayStation Network.

Arcade Archives seems like a great program for Nintendo Switch. The Switch’s portable nature feels like the perfect home for some arcade classics, as both platforms work for playing in short bursts. Games from the era were developed with that in mind, and Nintendo Switch is quickly becoming the new home for some old classics.

Back in September, Hamster laid out plans for future arcade releases. At Tokyo Games Show 2020, the publisher listed a bunch of arcade classics coming to the platform. Gradius II is the latest Switch addition to the Arcade Archives.

Gradius II arrives for Switch on Nov. 12.
