APB: Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is Switch-bound

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy- The Definitive Edition Switch

It turns out those rating boards meant something. Today, the worst kept secret in gaming was officially announced. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will be hitting the Nintendo Switch later this year. The collection will include Grand Theft Auto IIIGrand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. This is all part of this month’s 20th-anniversary celebration of the original launch of GTA III.

I can’t believe I’ll get to play Grand Theft Auto on the portable Switch

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will feature improvements to the classic PS2 titles. Graphics will be updated, and there will be modern gameplay enhancements, as well. Rockstar Games is looking to maintain the feel of the original games, so it will be interesting to see how it marries that to modern improvements. I’m sure it can make the games feel less clunky to control while keeping the PS2-era looks intact. Just smooth out the textures and we’ll be golden.

Interestingly, Rockstar Games did not mention if the soundtracks for all three titles will be complete or will be missing songs like they did when they were originally re-released in 2016 (that version of the trilogy will be removed from digital retailers next week). I don’t know how these can be “definitive” without the music that is tied so intimately to each of the title’s settings.

More details will be shared about the compendium in the upcoming weeks.
