Animal Crossing: New Horizons player gives out free Raymonds

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons black market is a very real thing. With millions of players spending hundreds of hours in pursuit of the best-looking island, there’s no shortage of players to pay big Bells for certain villagers. Up until recently, according to Animal Crossing Portal, Raymond has been the most popular villager, worth between 15 and 20 million Bells or 1,000 Nook Miles Tickets. In response to the merciless sellers on the black market, one player decided to buck the trend and give out free Raymonds to as many people as possible.

Content creator PokéNinja decided to start giving away free Raymonds because of how the Animal Crossing: New Horizons black market takes advantage of young gamers. He said that his reaction to this behavior was different now that he’s a father.

Using a save editor and a hacked version of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, PokéNinja set about generating as many Raymonds as he could. This isn’t usually possible in the main game, since Raymond is a new villager, but the save editor allowed him to bypass that issue. After that, he put out the above call to see if he could offer any villagers to players in need.

PokéNinja said that within 12 hours he had received 50 responses, and he set about getting them over to his island so that these players could get the villager they so desperately craved. Here are just a few of the responses:

As you can see, PokéNinja also helped players get some other Villagers that they were after. He estimates that he gave away about 30 free Raymonds over the day and returned all offers of Bells or Nook Miles Tickets. His goal was strictly to get one over on the scalpers, bringing down the worth of Raymond and other villagers on the black market.

PokéNinja went on this rampage against the Animal Crossing: New Horizons black market on May 18, just three days after Animal Crossing Portal’s Villager Popularity List was updated. The list is updated on the 15th and at the end of every month. As of May 15, Raymond was still the second most-wanted villager in the game, with Marshal being the most wanted. We’ll need to wait for a week or so to see if PokéNinja’s efforts have had any effect on the list, pushing Raymond down even further.
