Animal Crossing: New Horizons Festivale event incoming, teases Mario crossover for the future

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Festivale event Super Mario crossover March

Nintendo has released its latest Animal Crossing: New Horizons update video for the Festivale event, which is clearly inspired by Carnival. This is a returning event from previous series entries, as Pavé takes to the town square to kick off the festival season. However, the closing of the video is interesting too, as it looks like there may be a Mario / Animal Crossing: New Horizons crossover in the future.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves though. Festivale will bring a new event, new reactions, new clothing, and fresh seasonal items when it begins on Jan. 28. The event features a carnival festival where you’ll be able to collect feathers and trade them for some dance moves in return.

Shopping plays a big part in Festivale too. The Viva Festival Reaction Set will be purchasable from Nook’s Cranny, while Valentine’s Day chocolates and more will be accessible through Nook Shopping. Visiting the Able Sisters shop during Festivale is probably a good idea too. Here, new themed clothing items will be available for purchase.

The next major update after Festivale is planned for March, and this latest New Horizons video teases its contents. In short, it looks like the Mushroom Kingdom is making its way into Animal Crossing in some form. The trailer closes out with a Super Mushroom and a Super Star, and that’s all the tease we get.

We’re gonna assume that this is a continuation of last year’s Super Mario Bros. anniversary festivities. We’ve already seen events in Splatoon 2 and even a birthday battle royale in the form of Super Mario Bros. 35. That’s not to mention the limited-release Super Mario 3D All-Stars and the upcoming Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury.

This feels like a big one though. New Horizons has shot to stardom on Switch, even by the standards of something as popular as the Animal Crossing franchise. It’s easily the bestselling series entry, and a Mario crossover is going to be big news. Let’s hope it goes beyond things like outfits and customization options.

What do you think of Festivale and the teaser for a Mario crossover will bring to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in March?
