2020 was for the most part an awful year. Despite all this, many people across the world managed to find comfort with video games. One game in particular managed to prove especially popular, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which celebrates its first birthday today. The game released at the very beginning of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and has managed to sell over 30 million units since its release last March. Nintendo has constantly added new updates to the game, with the most recent one arriving on March 17 in anticipation of the birthday, which adds expanded customization options, support for the upcoming Bunny Day event, and a birthday cake. More content has also been added to Nook Shopping, including a variety of exclusive seasonal items.
To celebrate the game’s first anniversary, the Animal Crossing Twitter account represented by Isabelle has shared a piece of artwork. It features iconic characters from the game, including the likes of Tom Nook, Celeste, Isabelle, and much more. To be honest, it is hard to believe that the game is already a year old. Time flies when you’re having fun, I suppose!
Hi, everyone! Can you believe it's been a full year since Nook Inc. started offering its Deserted Island Getaway Package? Me neither! To commemorate the occasion, Mr. Nook has prepared a small gift for everyone on the islands. Be sure to check your mailbox! pic.twitter.com/3wUFwvnBDp

Animal Crossing: New Horizons still has a strong future ahead of it. Recently, we saw Super Mario Bros. items make their way into the game, so it will be interesting to see whether or not other Nintendo franchises will be represented. The original Animal Crossing is also being considered for induction into the Strong’s World Video Game Hall of Fame. Are you still playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and if so, what is your favorite memory of the game?
