Mass Effect TV series deal is in the works at Amazon

Mass Effect TV series show Amazon Studios Prime EA BioWare

Today has been a day of utterly random quasi-bombshells, like a Chrono Cross remaster seeming likely and Epic Games buying Harmonix, and we’re not done yet. Deadline reports that “Amazon Studios is nearing a deal to develop a series based on” Mass Effect, the influential BioWare science fiction RPG saga published by Electronic Arts (EA). This Mass Effect Amazon TV series detail is couched right in the middle of a long article about the success of Amazon’s The Wheel of Time, and it doesn’t elaborate any further on the Mass Effect show bit at all. So, that’s all we have to go on for now.

However, Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke did offer the following: “You will see us continuing to invest in fantasy genre of all kinds(;) we have a genre-focused team on the ground in Studios who work tirelessly with our creative partners on those slates, and you can look forward to more.” The “of all kinds” phrasing suggests that sci-fi is also part of fantasy, and with sci-fi hit The Expanse coming to an end at Amazon soon, a Mass Effect TV series would be a pretty phenomenal thing to replace it.

Although, to date, Netflix has been the streamer most associated with video game adaptations by far, as its video game movies and TV series are basically too numerous to count at this point: Resident Evil, more Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, The Witcher, more The Witcher, etc. It even bought Night School Studios to make its own games. A Mass Effect TV show could certainly eclipse a lot of that though, and it would make great competition for the Halo series on Paramount+.
