Go big or go home: Ultimate Alliance 3 DLC packs will not be sold separately

Alliance 3

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is a mere six days away. Fans are hyped to play this Switch exclusive, and it seems to be doing well, review-wise. The game boasts an impressive roster of 34 playable characters, with DLC heroes on the horizon. Gamers who are looking to pick and choose these upcoming personas, however, are about to be disappointed. As the title’s website points out, the expansion pass must be purchased in order to access any additional content.

Wait, run that by me again?!

Ultimate Alliance 3 will receive three DLC packs sometime after launch. Favorites from the Marvel Knights, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men are all set to join the fight against The Black Order. Before today, eager players assumed they could purchase the packs separately, based on their personal preferences. But as Deadpool recently pointed out:

Alliance 3

You read that right: the expansion pass for Ultimate Alliance 3 must be procured in order to get ANY of the DLC. Did you just want the X-Men? Tough luck, because you need to bring Johnny Storm and, uh, Moon Knight along for the ride.

Time for an internal debate!

I’m a bit torn on this revelation. On the one hand, the more Marvel characters to play as, the better, especially if you are with a group of friends. In addition, new story content is included in the pass. $19.99 isn’t a terrible asking price, either.

On the other hand, for some, having a variety of options is preferable to an all-in-one package. There are definitely gamers out there who didn’t even know who the Marvel Knights were prior to this announcement, myself included. Even a Chef Deadpool costume might not be enough to sell them on this pass.

The first DLC pack is due Fall 2019, with the second coming sometime after, and the final one launching next year.

Enthusiasts, are you upset with this Ultimate Alliance 3 development? Were you banking on buying the packs individually or were you already planning on nabbing the expansion pass regardless? Let us know in the comment field below.
