No kartridge: Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Kollection box doesn’t have physical media

Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath Kollection download only physical box no cart no cartridge

A hefty expansion recently launched for Mortal Kombat 11. Entitled Aftermath, the DLC contains new characters, stages, and extra story chapters. But what about gamers who never bought the game yet want all the fixings? For them, there’s Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Kollection. This bad boy contains the base game, Aftermath content, and all the previously released DLC. It’s releasing physically on Switch June 16 (it’s already available digitally). Did I say physically? I meant it’s just a download code in a box.

Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Kollection isn’t much of a tangible compilation

The proof of this unfortunately common occurrence is in the title’s listing on Amazon. Not only is this one of the main bullet points:

  • No disk included; Redeem the game via code inside the box.

Well, at least it’s right there. Front and center.

This is a blow to Switch owners who don’t own expanded storage via SD cards. Nintendo’s hybrid console is the last system where players can save space by playing directly off a cartridge. Sadly, box codes are a way for companies to save money.

Enthusiasts, will you be picking up the almost empty box version of Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Kollection? Do you own it already digitally? Are you prepared to display a Switch case with nothing in it? Let us know below.
