8-bit: Artist gives Pokémon Sword and Shield Game Boy Color treatment

Pokémon Sword and Shield Game Boy Color

Hey look, more Pokémon Sword and Shield news! Having just beaten the main campaign the other day, I feel it is my duty to report on anything Galar region-related. Gifted pixel artist Sindorman has given Pokémon Sword and Shield the Game Boy Color treatment by using Photoshop to an insane degree. The result is a perfect recreation of how some of the games’ early scenes would have played out on the vintage handheld.

The Game Boy Color’s Pokémon aesthetic is timeless

First, let’s take a look at how choosing our starter would have appeared on the GBC:

That was 11 seconds of pure bliss. I hope the player ended up picking Socrbunny, the only correct starter. Also, shout out to Sindorman for using coatlesscarl‘s Postwick remix. I like it more than the original!

Additionally, Sindorman recreated the player’s first meeting with Marnie and Team Yell:

The character portraits are a nice touch. Very expressive!

I always enjoy seeing these retro animations because they remind me of my youth. Nostalgia is a hell of a thing. The one thing I don’t miss is making a Pokémon a vessel for HMs. I’m glad we don’t have to do that anymore!
