When news broke that Pokémon Sword and Shield will not include every Pokémon, fans were naturally devastated. A common complaint was that every Pokémon is someone’s favorite Pokémon. For every person who really hates Trubbish, there’s someone out there with a poster of it on their wall. The Pokémon subreddit put this theory to the test and decided to poll people on who their favorite Pokémon is. More than 52,000 people submitted their votes. It turns out that, “Every Pokémon is someone’s favorite Pokémon,” is only mostly true. Out of more than 800 Pokémon, four of them are no one’s favorite.
Silcoon, Gothita, Eelektrik, and Yungoos got a grand total of zero votes. While other members of their evolutionary families fared (marginally) better, it’s a wonder there wasn’t one person in over 52,000 people that chose these Pokémon as their favorites.
Exeggcute, Patrat, Alomomola, Skorupi, Cosmoem, Sewaddle, Baltoy, and Trumbeak didn’t fare too much better, with each only getting one vote. Of these, Alomomola is the only one not part of an evolutionary line. So while Silcoon, Gothita, Eelektrik, and Yungoos themselves got fewer votes, their evolutions and pre-evolutions got many more. Thus, the argument could be made that Alomomola is the true loser of this poll.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, the poll discovered the most popular Pokémon. Surprisingly, Pikachu came in 44th place, a few places below Raichu. The 10 Pokémon that came out on top are as follows:
- Charizard (1107 votes)
- Gengar (1056 votes)
- Arcanine (923 votes)
- Bulbasaur (710 votes)
- Blaziken (613 votes)
- Umbreon (607 votes)
- Lucario (604 votes)
- Gardevoir (585 votes)
- Eevee (581 votes)
- Dragonite (551 votes)
Of course, these numbers are a little skewed. The poll was on an English-speaking subreddit and not every Pokémon fan in the universe participated in the poll. And exact numbers should be viewed with a little skepticism as internet polls are very easy to mess with. Still, the numbers are fairly impressive and show just how faithful Pokémon fans are to their favorites.
Did you participate in this poll? If so, who did you vote for? Or who would you vote for?
